MCP2515-I/P

Microchip Technology

MCP2515-I/P is a Microchip Technology stand-alone CAN controller in 18-pin PDIP — the through-hole variant for adding CAN 2.0B to any microcontroller via SPI: legacy industrial nodes, automotive accessories and designs that must stay hand-assemblable and field-serviceable. It implements the full CAN 2.0B protocol at up to 1 Mb/s with three transmit buffers, two receive buffers and hardware acceptance filtering — six 29-bit filters plus two masks — so the host MCU is interrupted only by frames it actually needs. Selection advice: the I/P code denotes the industrial −40 °C to +85 °C grade in PDIP-18, the only through-hole package in the MCP2515 ordering system (datasheet DS20001801K); the SOIC-18, TSSOP-20 and QFN-20 variants on this site carry the same silicon for surface-mount builds. The MCP2515 is the protocol controller only — pair it with a CAN transceiver to reach the physical bus. The 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply covers both 3.3 V and 5 V logic.
