Microchip TechnologyMCP2515-E/ST is the extended-temperature variant of Microchip Technology's stand-alone CAN controller, in 20-pin TSSOP — for CAN nodes that live in hot environments: engine-bay and outdoor equipment, industrial ovens and sun-exposed enclosures. The E grade is rated −40 °C to +125 °C, against −40 °C to +85 °C for the industrial I grade on this site, with the same CAN 2.0B protocol engine, 1 Mb/s bus rate, three transmit and two receive buffers, six 29-bit acceptance filters plus two masks and a 10 MHz SPI host link. Selection advice: the E/ST code denotes the extended grade in TSSOP-20 (datasheet DS20001801K) — order it when the ambient genuinely exceeds the I grade's +85 °C ceiling; the footprint matches the MCP2515-I/ST exactly, but the two codes are not interchangeable on a qualified BOM line without re-approval. The MCP2515 is the protocol controller only — pair it with a CAN transceiver to reach the physical bus. The 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply covers both 3.3 V and 5 V logic.
