L298P013TR is the PowerSO-20 surface-mount variant of STMicroelectronics' L298 dual full-bridge driver — for DC and stepper motor designs that cannot take the Multiwatt-15 through-hole package of the classic L298N. The device integrates two full bridges with separate enable inputs and a separate logic supply: operating supply up to 46 V and total DC current up to 4 A across both bridges combined. Selection advice: the 013TR code denotes the PowerSO-20 on tape and reel — a different footprint and assembly process from the L298N, not a packing variant of it, so the two codes are not interchangeable on a qualified layout. The L298 is a bipolar Darlington design with significant saturation voltage drop, and it contains no clamp diodes: budget external fast-recovery freewheeling diodes and copper heatsinking area in the layout (the L293D integrates the diodes; the L298 family does not).
