MAX3232EIDR
Texas InstrumentsMAX3232EIDR is a Texas Instruments 3 V to 5.5 V dual-channel RS-232 line driver/receiver in SOIC-16, supplied on a 2,500-piece large tape and reel — for industrial PCs, networking and field equipment that must run the MAX3232E interface over -40°C to +85°C instead of the 0°C to +70°C commercial range of the MAX3232ECDR. It provides two drivers and two receivers with a dual charge pump, 300 µA typical supply current, and data rates of 250 kbit/s typical (150 kbit/s minimum guaranteed, SLLS664 switching characteristics). ESD protection on the RS-232 pins is ±15 kV HBM, ±8 kV IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge and ±15 kV IEC 61000-4-2 air-gap discharge. The four external charge-pump capacitors are 0.1 µF each at a 3.3 V ± 0.3 V supply; at other supply voltages select the capacitor values per SLLS664E Table 9-1 (0.047 µF for C1 and 0.33 µF for C2-C4 at 5 V ± 0.5 V; 0.1 µF for C1 and 0.47 µF for C2-C4 across the full 3 V to 5.5 V range). Selection advice: pick the EIDR code when the end equipment carries an industrial temperature specification; pick the ECDR code for commercial-range designs — the two are not interchangeable on a temperature-qualified BOM even though the footprint and function are identical. TI lists MAX3232EIDR as Active in the SLLS664 Package Option Addendum, checked 2026-10-20.
