Analog DevicesThe ADM3251EARWZ-REEL is an isolated RS-232 transceiver in a 20-lead wide-body SOIC package that transfers data at up to 460 kbps across a 2.5 kVrms isolation barrier, specified over -40 C to +85 C and supplied on tape and reel. Integrating the isolation inside the transceiver removes the separate optocouplers and isolated supply components a legacy serial port otherwise needs, which shrinks the interface footprint on industrial controllers, medical instruments and point-of-sale equipment that still depend on RS-232. Fewer components in the isolation path also improves long-term reliability and simplifies safety certification of the end product.
